I love the tiger that pops up every now and then hahahaha
part 2 of 9
Documentary chronicling the early years of the NYC underground DJ/dance club culture, pioneered largely by gay, black & hispanic men.
Basically a tribute to Larry Levan, David Mancuso, Frankie Knuckles, Nicky Siano, Tony Humphries. Featuring the The Loft, Paradise Garage.
Watch the 1st part here (youtube, 9 parts).
Here are a few words on how spots like the Garage Paradise was organized:
And the point of the party was dancing.
You had the best sound system money could buy. The best lights – there to enhance the dancing experience, not to perform flashy shows.
There was free food: 10 different flavours of lemon-ice and all kinds of fruit in the summer, freshly baked brownies and doughnuts in the winter. Coffee and soft drinks were free too. Because if you’re going to dance for 12 hours, you’re going to need to replenish your energy at some point. They even served turkey with all the trimmings at Christmas and Thanksgiving.
Yet there was no alcohol. And if you ask Kevorkian why, he simply replies, “That was not what it was about.”
Just a tiny bit of how things got together there. Read the rest on this website for a more thorough understanding of Levan/the Garage Paradise etc.
‘You can’t respect somebody who kisses your ass. It just doesn’t work.’
Ok, so this is truly a great flawless 30 min mix of the late James Brown. It includes his classics as wel as little cutups of breaks that refer back to how hiphawp used to sample this guy to DEATH.
I’m a such a sucker for his music, I can’t help it.
Also, here’s this badhomemade webradiorip of this new track called ‘No Answers’ (save as). Sorry. I couldn’t resist.
I mean we’re all pretty bizarre!
Some of us are just better at hiding it, that’s all.
I made this as my costume for Halloween 2009. It was kind of inspired by big-head mode seen in videogames. I really wanted to get the faceted geosphere look with wireframe.
Visit Eric Testroete’s portfolio.
I initially wanted to upload a Lucky Me mixtape from Machine Drum, but I then found out ROORY was first. Dang.
Anyhooo, another decent older mix from Machine Drum, with Machine Drum music, Machine Drum remixes and Machine Drum edits is this tape called ‘Fenris Eyes’.
New? no. Decent? yes.
Heard the movie was very, very wack. Fresh clip though.
Spring/Summer Collection 2010. Couldn’t resist posting these. More photos.
Thanks for Parham Rahimzadeh for the heads up! More photos.
